The City of Vice
Architecture and People in Trafaria

Sustenta organized an exhibition entitled "CRR - The City of Vice: Architecture and the People in Trafaria", on display from June 17th to July 12th. The exhibition was dedicated to the students' work from the Curricular Unit "Conservation, Restoration and Rehabilitation", of the 4th year of the Master's Degree in Architecture, coordinated by Professor Daniel Jesus.

Considering that economic potentiality decides how and where one can live, what's left for the “People” is to resist (subsist?) through a legal or illegal occupation marginalized by this choice, appropriating residual places or past centralities that meanwhile abandoned.

How can architecture - that is, how can architects - contribute to counteract the intrinsic vice that calls it to “professionally” respond to the designs of power, and instead respond to the utopian and political vocation that imagines access to the city as a right (rather than as a commodity), and elect it to spaces as irrepressible design?
