PRO-VILLAGES

REPOPULATE THE COUNTRYSIDE
Abstract

Based on the global knowledge of the problem and the current principles of sustainable intervention of the territory centered on a landscape approach, this research project will seek to develop a strategic integrated and participatory intervention to create basic conditions (in the scientific area of Environment, Territory and Population) to repopulate a set of villages studied within the scope of the curricular unit "Landscape and Heritage - Methodologies for Requalification of Rural Space", taught at the Lisbon School of Architecture (FA-ULisboa).
The innovative character of this research project is based on the intersection of several fields of knowledge related to Architecture (heritage requalification, traditional building techniques, and eco-architecture), Landscape Architecture (regional planning and landscape planning), Agricultural Economics, History (migration and social behavior studies), and Philosophy (human meaning processes) that, jointly analyze and interpret a common element - the landscape. This approach will focus on the involvement of the local communities in small villages studied in the referred curricular unit, in protocol with the respective Municipal Councils, in order to develop an integrated strategy for the recognition of their land value and territorial potential.

Development and/or results

Related to the study cases, and based on the premises of the “Handbook of Research on Methods and Tools for Assessing Cultural Landscape Adaptation”, edited by the research team, the project aims to develop a Strategic Document Base Project, which will include: a Land-use Plan for a characterization and classification of a rating Potential Repopulation; an Observatory for monitoring the Transfer of Knowledge, with the publication of a Practice Handbook and creation of an Online Platform; a Strategic Intervention Program to establish a set of criteria for the rehabilitation of landscape and balance rehabilitation, including a model of sustainable rural exploration. .
